B'sorah Trail: A Hiker’s Delight
Goodness gracious, great balls of flaming fire, this trail is right up there with the best we've tackled so far! It kept popping up on our radar like an annoying ad you can't skip.
So, fun fact: because Salt and I are planning two days of hiking next week in Magaliesburg, my ever-dutiful son found two amazing-looking hikes in Magaliesburg for this weekend…..maybe because his trusted mom erroneously thought we were doing that this weekend... just saying.
Well, those two have to be done next weekend then! What hikes did I plan with my death-by-spreadsheets, I wondered? Let's see... Oh, right, B'sorah Trail was on the itinerary. So, why not give it a shot this week and avoid a scheduling disaster? Probably be an anticlimax anyway... as usual with a much-hyped trail.
Boy, was I wrong. From start to finish, this trail was nothing short of amazing.
As we always do when approaching an area, channeling our inner "seasoned" hikers' predictions, we mused about how exceptional this hike might be. We quickly concluded it wasn’t going to be anything impressive—no towering peaks to speak of, just more of the same old scenery.
Uuuuum.....wrong!! From the moment I got out of the car, I knew this was going to be special. The quaintest little coffee caravan being set up by friendly faces. The lady we bought the tickets from—pure joy. The energy was amazing.

We decided on the 10 km, and wow, were we impressed. There was no "been there, done that" moment. The trail had it all: bush, forest, streams, and rocks.
We barely saw anyone. Just one (more mature) couple that passed us and continued... JOGGING. That burst my "I am an older person pushing my limits like no one else I know my age" bubble!!
Once they were out of sight…show-offs… we were alone. This trail felt like we were discovering undiscovered places on earth. I felt like a true adventurer!

We even saw game: buck when we started, some dassies, loads of adorable cows, and monkeys, of course!

The river gorge did not disappoint. Normally, the promise of a gorge does not live up to expectations. But this one so did!! It is exceptionally beautiful, and the clear water is a perfect swimming spot if it was warmer. There is even a picnic area.

There were amazing lookout points, which required a bit of climbing. But all totally doable, and not compulsory if you were not happy about it. These lookout points were chosen wisely. I sometimes feel like whoever chooses the lookout points on trails doesn’t actually look out… as generally I find better ones. But wowzer… these were the ones to look out from!!

There were options everywhere you went. You could take an easier route if you wanted, you could walk over a tree bridge, or go around. Options galore.
There was a choice between an easy route or forest walk at one point, and Salt DARED ask me which I wanted to do. Dammit, boy!! You know I am not a FOMO kind of person, but when it comes to hikes, I fear missing absolutely everything!! Always go one step further to see so much better!!
Thank you B’sorah……..what a day!!
