Kloofzicht Lodge & Spa Hiking: Same Group, Totally Different Vibe

Another "on my list for ages" hike.
A few weeks ago, Rosemary and I tackled a hike at Glenburn Lodge. Turns out, Glenburn and Kloofzicht are part of the same group.
And just to really blur the lines, a detour on that Glenburn hike accidentally took us straight through Kloofzicht.
Then, the following week, we crossed bits of it again while doing the 20 km Cradle Moon hike.

So yes, we’d “kind of” already been there.
Twice.
Unintentionally.
And yet—we were still keen to return.
Hiking With Rosemary
Quick side note if you’re new here: Rosemary, member of my "esteemed" tribe, is exceptionally low maintenance.

I message: “Sunday. Kloofzicht. You in?”
Her: “Yes.”
Later that week:
Me: “Heads up - 77% chance of rain.”
Her: “Great. Whatever. What time?”
Google, as usual, was about as clear as mud. So I message the lodge:
“Anything between 6 and 9 am - will confirm.”
A little later…
Me: "Blue ticks. No reply".
Her: “Let’s chance it. Meet at 7:30.”
And that is Rosemary in a nutshell - minimal planning, maximum confidence.

Double Rainbows
On the drive there, I saw the most dramatic double rainbow I have ever seen.
Like… cinematic.
Biblical.
“Have they come to fetch me?” levels of intense.

Arrival
Driving toward reception, I did briefly wonder if this was all a bit pointless.
Same area, same views,
Then I saw the familiar wildlife from our previous detour, and was sold.
I took a while - me being incapable of driving past… well, anything without stopping for photos.
Meanwhile, Rosemary waited patiently at reception, entirely unbothered..
Kloofzicht vs Glenburn: Not the Same Gene Pool
Although Glenburn and Kloofzicht are part of the same group, they do not share the same hiking DNA.
Where Glenburn is a proper hike - challenging, technical, and demanding - Kloofzicht is tranquil, peaceful, and virtually flat.
And honestly? I wasn’t mad about it.
This was a beautiful 5 km walk, perfect for a gentle morning in nature.
It was calm.
Quiet.
Serene.

Two minutes before the hike ended, it started pouring with rain.
Universe… you absolute biscuit.
Pricing, Snacks, and My Ongoing Rant
The similarity between Glenburn and Kloofzicht comes down to price.
R 150 per person, which includes a R50 voucher for post-hike food.
And like I said with Glenburn, we are grown adults, we are hikers, we are excellent at post hike snacking. We do not need to be incentivised.
Hiking is usually a fairly affordable hobby. This makes it… less so.
A hiking trail makes their money off the hikers, and if I get charged R 150 for a trail, I have no issues.

When you are a lodge, the trails are incidental
Just charge R 100 and let us live our lives.
Thank you, Rosemary, for another peaceful, muddy, rainbow-filled morning in nature - and for ticking yet another spot off my list.
