Memory Lane, Literally

Recently, I shared links to my Discord channel and my website so people could search my hikes instead of scrolling endlessly through the digital abyss.

I am kind like that.

Yes, yes. Not all heroes wear capes.

Some of us make a few clickable links and then quietly bask in our own brilliance.

The feedback was warm. Fuzzy. Affirming.

I felt organised.

I felt capable.

I briefly considered buying linen pants.

The Confusing Part

Now let me proceed with the confusing part - before the important part.

For your safety, please remember to breathe while reading this, otherwise you may spontaneously combust from confusion.

From my last post, you’ll remember I was 100% convinced I had already hiked Kloofendal. I drove to Klapperkop (which I assumed was Kloofendal), and eventually arrived at actual Kloofendal, where I was supposed to be in the first place.

Minor detail. Totally fine. Nothing to see here.

Fast forward to Tuesday - the one after the Sunday I actually hiked Kloofendal - a follower messages me saying she’s struggling with my search bar.

She wanted to check if I’d done Kloofendal.

Now, a normal person would have thought:

“Oh! What a coincidence. I have just hiked this" and send a reply.

Did I do that?

No.

Of course not.

I instead chose chaos.

I searched my website on my phone, panicked when I couldn’t find the search bar, spiraled into Discord, typed “Kloofendal,” and was met with the haunting words:

"No results found."

The Realization

And then - thank you, tiny spark of logic - it hit me.

The trail.

The very trail.

The one still scheduled to be posted.

Yes.It was that one.

Me and Kloofendal? I literally cannot even.

The Important Part

The reason I’ve dragged you through this absolute train wreck?

A life-altering announcement.

I am going to start reposting my old hikes here and there.

Not just for you, obviously - but for me too.

Because apparently my brain needs constant reminders that I have, in fact, been outside and survived.

It will probably land on a Sunday.

And it shall be known as:

“Sunday Rewind”

Which I suppose means it actually has to be posted on a Sunday.

(A bold commitment for someone who regularly loses track of days, locations, and entire hikes - but we love a growth moment.)

For those of you who have successfully used my search bar: congratulations.

You’re living the dream.

And to all of you out there, may your brain stay sharp, your memory intact, and your sanity slightly less shredded than mine.

Otherwise… welcome to your future.

THE END
