A Hiking Blog for the "Seasoned but Sassy"

Welcome to a no-nonsense, slightly (read "very") sarcastic corner of the internet where I document my newfound passion.

Hiking Over 50: The Unfiltered Truth About Trails, Aging and Inexperience

Why document this journey, you might ask? Well, for starters, I am notorious for forgetting which trails I've conquered in any given week……. it’s the age you see. So, consider this my attempt to keep track of my hiking escapades, one trail at a time.

But there's another, more important reason for documenting my journey – to provide a subjective perspective on the challenges and joys of hiking at my age and level of (in)experience.

Google “Best Beginner Hikes” — and Prepare to Be Lied To

Seriously, try it. You’ll get a 25-year-old or mature but experienced hiker, who thinks a "mild incline" is a spiritual awakening. Meanwhile, the rest of us are over here wondering if "easy trail" includes paramedics on standby.

This blog cuts through the fluff. If a hike says “beginner-friendly” but feels like a stairway to cardiac arrest, I’ll tell you.

This space is for the honest reviews, the “how hard is this really?” breakdowns from someone who didn’t grow up in hiking boots but still wants to give the mountains a piece of her mind (and lungs).

Who Is This Blog For?

If you’re:

  • Over 50 and wondering if hiking is even an option,

  • A newbie who's sick of “expert” advice that assumes you’re training for Everest,

  • Or just someone who appreciates a blunt, real-world take on outdoor adventures,

...then congratulations — you’ve found your tribe.

How Hiking Became My Accidental Workout Plan

Look, I am 58 years old, I’ve never been a “gym person,” and you won’t catch me dead in a spin class. But I’ve always been on the move — cleaning, fixing, tinkering. You know, the kind of “functional fitness” that doesn’t come with a membership fee.

But this? This is different. Now, hiking has become a weekly non-negotiable, a personal challenge, and surprisingly, a lot of fun (most of the time).

Now that you have a clearer picture of who I am and the journey I've embarked upon, perhaps you can better understand who you are comparing yourself with.

Lace Up Those Hiking Boots, and Let’s Tackle These Trails — One Sarcastic Step at a Time

So grab your boots, dust off that walking stick (or “hiking pole” if we’re feeling fancy), and join me as we venture into the wild, one trail (and one snarky blog post) at a time.

Because let’s face it — the trail isn’t going to hike itself, and neither are we.
