GeM Vaal :Luxury Accommodation in Vaal Marina

In case you missed my original post about Vaal Marina a few months ago, I may have mentioned - repeatedly - that I wanted to go back.

Not long afterwards GeM Vaal graciously offered to host me for a weekend.

Naturally, I assumed I’d eventually need to send the “Hi, just checking you still remember me?”

Completely unnecessary - before I even had time, the booking confirmation arrived.

Bringing a Plus-One

Since I only hike alone when I know the trail - or when friends cancel at the last minute and pretend it’s “circumstantial” instead of emotional betrayal - I asked whether I could bring my hiking bud Rosemary along.

She was staying 30 minutes away, and because we planned an early hike the next morning, it made sense.

I was fully prepared to reply with:

“No worries at all, I completely understand.”

Their response?

“No problem.”

Just like that.

No passive aggression.

No suspicious silence.

Someone Is Sleeping On The Couch

Now, I sleep terribly - especially on trips.

I lie awake binge-watching Netflix on a burner phone like a raccoon hiding under the covers.

Sharing a bed felt unfair to Rosemary.

But asking whether there were twin beds felt even more unfair to GeM Vaal.

So I mentioned this to Rosemary, and we discussed who would nobly sacrifice themselves to sleep on the couch - like two Victorian orphans preparing for hardship.

Because that’s who we are - simple folk - the sort of people who think an extra pillow qualifies as exceptional customer service.

Rosemary even announced at one point that she’d simply drive home if there wasn’t a couch available, and we could meet up again in the morning.

Luxury Accommodation

But on arrival, we discovered that the concept of “couch diplomacy” was entirely unnecessary.

From the moment we entered the estate, everything screamed:

“Oh, you thought this was normal accommodation? That’s adorable.”

Even the security guards were friendly and helped us navigate the maze of confusing unit numbers.

We walked into this place and our jaws dropped.

There were four bedrooms.

Four.

Each one en suite, because apparently sharing bathrooms is now considered a medieval practice for peasants and backpackers - a concept I fully support.

The house overlooked the marina and was beautifully furnished in a way that immediately makes you sit straighter and avoid touching surfaces unnecessarily.

There was an indoor braai area, a bar, a washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher - essentially every appliance known to modern civilisation.

And yes, ofcourse there was a jacuzzi.

It was empty, and we respectfully left it that way because, quite frankly, climbing into a bubbling jacuzzi overlooking the marina may very well have caused a full identity crisis.

A Peaceful Evening at the Marina

Later that afternoon we took a walk in the estate around the quiet and peaceful marina.

Lined with boats belonging to people who probably understand wine pairings.

Vaal Marina really does have a calmness about it that sneaks up on you.

No chaos.

No rush.

Just water, sunsets, bird life, and the overwhelming realization that city life may actually be a deeply flawed concept.

Eventually we returned to the house and slept in outrageously comfortable beds.

To clarify - neither of us slept on the couch - but they did look emotionally available if needed.

On A Final Note

So if you’re looking for accommodation in Vaal Marina, this honestly feels like one of those places that gets everything right.

Not in a loud, over-promising, “luxury experience!!!” kind of way that usually translates to a slightly wobbly bed and a faulty kettle.

More in the quietly confident way that suggests someone actually thought about what guests might need… and then provided it.

The space, the layout, the comfort - even the small details that usually betray a property’s true personality (like not enough plug points or a lack of cutlery) - are all handled properly.

By the end of it, I wasn't just impressed - I was mildly concerned that my future expectations had been permanently ruined.

So thank you again to GeM Vaal for hosting us so generously.

For one glorious weekend, two self-declared peasants entered the property feeling like two budget hikers who accidentally wandered into a catalogue shoot for waterfront luxury living.
